ATF Filter Replacement

NOTE: The ATF filter is not a scheduled maintenance item. Replace the filter only if it is leaking, or contaminated, or when the transmission is being overhauled or replaced with a remanufactured unit.
  1. Do the battery removal procedure (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  2. Remove the battery base (see ENGINE REMOVAL ).
  3. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
  4. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the ATF.

  5. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
  6. Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A) from the ATF filter (B).

  7. Remove the ATF filter holder (C), and remove the ATF filter.
  8. Install a new ATF filter, and secure it with its holder and bolt.
  9. Connect the ATF cooler hose (see ATF COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT  ).
  10. Refill the transmission with ATF (see ATF REPLACEMENT  ).
  11. Install the battery base (see ENGINE INSTALLATION ).
  12. Do the battery installation procedure (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
