Spark Plug Inspection: Test

How to use this manual .

1. Spark Plug - Inspect

   Preconditions 

   • Spark Plug Removed - Refer to: Cylinder Head Cover Area(3.0L Engine) or Cylinder Head Cover Area(2.0L Engine)

   Procedure/Specifications 

   NOTICE: 

   • Do not adjust the gap or clean the spark plug with a wire brush since this will damage the electrode.
   • Replace the spark plug when prompted by the maintenance reminder or according to the maintenance schedule.
   • If an abnormality is suspected, replace the suspected spark plug from another cylinder and recheck.

   • Burned or worn electrodes may be caused by these conditions:
   • 1. -

        Advanced ignition timing

     2. -

        Loose spark plug

     3. -

        Plug heat range too hot

     4. -

        Insufficient cooling

   • Fouled plugs may be caused by these conditions:
   • 1. -

        Retarded ignition timing

     2. -

        Oil in combustion chamber

     3. -

        Incorrect spark plug gap

     4. -

        Plug heat range too cold

     5. -

        Excessive idling/low speed running

     6. -

        Clogged air cleaner element

     7. -

        Deteriorated ignition coils

   Result 

   • If it is abnormal, replace the spark plug.
