DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0710
DTC P0710 : ATF Temperature Sensor Out of Range
General Description
The ATF temperature sensor is a thermistor type sensor that changes resistance according to the change in ATF temperature. The transmission control module (TCM) sends a 5 V reference signal to the sensor through a pull-up resistor. When the ATF temperature is low, the sensor resistance increases and the TCM detects a high signal voltage. As the ATF temperature rises, the sensor resistance decreases and the TCM detects a low signal voltage. If the ATF temperature sensor output voltage is a specified range for a specified duration, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
One of these conditions is met for at least 5 seconds:
- The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temp Sensor (V)] is 0.085 V or more, or 0.097 V or less.
- The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temp Sensor (V)] is 4.87 V or more, or 4.922 V or less.
Possible Cause
- Valve body assembly failure (ATF temperature sensor)
- TCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 5 seconds in P position/mode.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the TCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on, the shift position indicator blinks, and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
