DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0762
DTC P0762 : Shift Solenoid Valve C Stuck ON
General Description
Shift solenoid valve C is installed on the valve body assembly. It is controlled by the ON/OFF signal from the transmission control module (TCM) to apply line pressure to the parking actuator valve via the lock-up shift valve. The parking system is operated by driving the parking actuator valve with shift solenoid valves C, D, E, and F. The parking actuator valve stroke sensor which measures the stroke position of the parking actuator valve is structured by two systems as the sensor characteristics are shown as in the figure. When the stroke value of the parking actuator valve stroke sensor is approximately 5.4 mm (0.21 in) or more, the parking system is non-parking position, and when it is approximately -4.1 mm (-0.16 in) or less, it is in parking position. For detecting the malfunction, the TCM uses the values of the parking actuator valve stroke sensor when the parking system is switch controlled to the parking position. If the parking actuator valve stroke sensor value is in abnormal range for a specified time when the parking system is switch controlled to the parking position, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The parking actuator valve stroke sensor value is 5.4 mm (0.21 in) or more for at least 0.5 second when the parking system is switch controlled to the parking position.
Possible Cause
- Valve body assembly failure (shift solenoid valve C or E stuck on, shift solenoid valve F stuck off)
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Start the engine.
- While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission to D position/mode, then shift to P position/mode, and wait for several seconds.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the TCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the shift position indicator blinks and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
