Power Tailgate Motor Test: Test
How to use this service information .
NOTICE:
When working with a vehicle equipped with the electronic air suspension, be sure to set it to the leveling off mode to prevent unexpected operation. Refer to the Electronic Air Suspension System Service Precautions - Refer to: Electronic Air Suspension System Connector Fitting Precautions or Electronic Air Suspension System Service Precautions for the procedure.
The motor and the sensor are built into the left tailgate support strut.

Procedure/Specifications
NOTICE:
- When testing the power tailgate motor operation, make sure the power tailgate motor is mounted on the vehicle, and secure sufficient working area for opening and closing the tailgate.
- The power tailgate moves faster than you think, so stay alert while you are working on the power tailgate. Stop the power tailgate motor immediately when the power tailgate opens or closes fully, or else the power tailgate motor may be damaged.
- Before testing, make sure not to short the power tailgate motor circuit.
1. Test the motor by applying power and ground at the connector (A) on the floor wire harness side according to the table. When the motor stops running, disconnect 12 volt battery power immediately. (Figure 1 and 2)
- If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, then go to step 2.

2. Remove the tailgate trim panel .
3. Test the motor by connecting power and ground according to the table. When the motor stops running, disconnect 12 volt battery power immediately. (Figure 3 and 4)
Result
- If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, the motor is faulty; replace the left tailgate support strut .
- If the motor runs smoothly, further troubleshoot the power tailgate circuit.
