Ignition Timing Inspection (1.5L Engine): Inspection

NOTICE:
If a DTC is present, diagnose and repair the cause before continuing with this inspection.
- Ignition Timing - Inspect
Preconditions
- Engine Warmed UpNOTE:
Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3, 000 rpm until the cooling fan(s) comes on.
- Idle Speed Normal Condition - Refer to: Idle Speed Inspection (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) or Idle Speed Inspection (1.5L Engine)
- HDS Connected
Procedure/Specifications
1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
2. Start the engine.
3. Connect the timing light (a) to the service loop (white tape) (b). Check the ignition timing under the following conditions.

Position Condition Specification/Standard Value c Pointer - No load Condition (headlights, blower fan, rear window defogger, and air conditioner are turned off)
- M/T: At idle in neutral
- CVT: At idle in P or N
The pointer and red mark should align.4 +/-2 deg. BTDC d Red Mark Result
- If the measurement is not within specifications, check the camshaft timing - Refer to: Camshaft Timing Inspection (1.5L Engine) or Camshaft Timing Inspection (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) . If the camshaft timing is OK, update the PCM - Refer to: PCM Reset or PCM Update if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: Air Cleaner Area (1.5L Engine) or Air Cleaner Area (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) , then recheck. If the system works properly, and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: Air Cleaner Area (1.5L Engine) or Air Cleaner Area (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) .
