Catalytic Converters: Description

The catalytic converter is mounted in the exhaust system and serves to promote a chemical reaction which reduces exhaust emissions. The converter contains a thermocouple which turns on warning light on dash should converter begin to overheat. As the converter temperature approaches maximum permitted temperature, the light begins to blink and blinks faster if temperature continues to increase. When maximum temperature is obtained, light will stay on continuously due to a fuse blowing in the warning device circuit.
