Removal And Installation
NOTE:
Before removing and installing the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module the following preliminary operations must be carried out.
- Position the vehicle with the front wheels straight.
- Turn the ignition key to the Off position and extract it.
- Disconnect the battery cables and insulate them.
- Wait for 10 minutes before proceeding.
- FOLLOW ALL THE PRESCRIBED SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. Refer to WARNING .
- Release the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module guard (1) from its fastenings.
- Disconnect the electrical connections (1) for the ORC module.
- Remove the mounting screws (2a) and nut and remove the ORC module (2b).
Observe the following precautions:
- Do not strike or shake the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module.
- Do not connect the electrical connections to the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module before having correctly secured the module.
- Make sure that the battery is disconnected.
- In case of replacement, remove the detachable part of the adhesive label from the new module and place it in a dedicated folder containing the vehicle details (model, registration date, chassis number) and the serial number of the old module.
- The folder must be kept for any checks necessary.
- Position the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module (1), making sure that the arrow on the top of the control unit is facing the direction of travel.
- Tighten the screws and the mounting nut. Tighten the screws and the nut securely.
- Connect the electrical connections (3) for the ORC module.
- Position the ORC module guard (1) in its housing and secure it to the fastenings.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Use a diagnostic scan tool to check that the system has not acquired errors during the operation.NOTE:
Some of the CAN nodes, including the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module, are programmed with default settings that the customer will find when they purchase the vehicle. If the ORC module is being replaced, the replacement part will be a pristine component. Once installed, the data memorized in the Body Control Module (BCM) must be transferred to it by carrying out the PROXY ALIGNMENT procedure using a diagnostic scan tool.
