Steering Columns: Description

Audi 5000 has a 2-piece steering column/shaft assembly. Steering shaft has offset slip joint engaging flange tube. In a collision, gear box and flange tube may move rearward, but the force will not be transmitted through upper column shaft. A locking device prevents steering wheel from turning when ignition key is removed.
