Cold Start Valve

  1. Check cold start valve with engine coolant temperature below 86°F (30°C). Disconnect and ground high tension lead at distributor cap end. Remove cold start valve from intake manifold with wiring and fuel line connected. Point tip into safe container.
  2. Crank starter for 10 seconds. Valve should emit cone-shaped spray for time allowed by ECU. If no fuel sprays and fuel pressure is present, test system control in TESTS W/CODES article in this section. Dry off tip and check for leaks. Acceptable leakage rate of cold start valve is one drip per minute or less.
