Oxygen (O2) Sensor Heating Element

  1. Disconnect O2 sensor heater connection. Connect voltmeter between terminals of sensor connector. Start engine and let idle.
  2. Battery voltage should be present. If battery voltage is not present, repair open or short in circuit. If battery voltage exists, connect Test Adaptor (VW 1315 A/1) between sensor and connector.
  3. Attach ammeter to adaptor. With ignition on, 0.5-3.0 amps should be present. Current will be reduced proportionately to heating of sensor. If amperage flow is not correct, replace O2 sensor.
