Engine Speed (Rpm) Sensor

  1. Raise left front wheel off of ground. Read individual measuring values in channel 15. See READ INDIVIDUAL MEASURING VALUES MODE in G - TESTS W/ CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. With ignition on, turn left front wheel by hand and observe engine RPM displayed on Scan Tester (VAG 1551).
  2. If RPM is displayed, RPM sensor is okay. If RPM is not displayed, check for faulty wiring. If wiring is okay, replace ECM. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table at beginning of article.
