Checking Function
- Switch ignition ON.
- Select "READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK" function 08 using (VAG 1551) Scan Tool. See READING/MEASURING VALUE BLOCK (FUNCTION 08) under OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES (DTM) in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
- Input display group number 03.
- Observe display values in channel 3, under the following conditions:
- Closed Throttle Position (CTP): accelerator pedal not applied. Display value must be 5-10 degrees.
- Wide Open Throttle (WOT): accelerator pedal pressed to floor. Display value must be 90-102 degrees.
- If specified values are NOT obtained, check TP sensor adjustment, and correct if necessary. For accelerator pedal cable and closed throttle position sensor adjustment procedures. See ADJUSTMENTS in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR .
- If adjustment is okay, check voltage supply, check wiring connection and check TP sensor resistance. See CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE .
NOTE:
Do not allow engine to idle.
NOTE:
For values less than 5 degrees there is a short circuit in the wiring connection to TP sensor. For values over 102 degrees there is an open circuit in the wiring, or in the TP sensor.
