Checking Function

  1. Switch ignition ON.
  2. Select "READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK" function 08 using (VAG 1551) Scan Tool. See READING/MEASURING VALUE BLOCK (FUNCTION 08) under OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES (DTM) in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
  3. NOTE: Do not allow engine to idle.
  4. Input display group number 03.
  5. Observe display values in channel 3, under the following conditions:
    • Closed Throttle Position (CTP): accelerator pedal not applied. Display value must be 5-10 degrees.
    • Wide Open Throttle (WOT): accelerator pedal pressed to floor. Display value must be 90-102 degrees.
  6. NOTE: For values less than 5 degrees there is a short circuit in the wiring connection to TP sensor. For values over 102 degrees there is an open circuit in the wiring, or in the TP sensor.
  7. If specified values are NOT obtained, check TP sensor adjustment, and correct if necessary. For accelerator pedal cable and closed throttle position sensor adjustment procedures. See ADJUSTMENTS in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR .
  8. If adjustment is okay, check voltage supply, check wiring connection and check TP sensor resistance. See CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE .
