Fuel System Pressure Release

WARNING: ALWAYS release fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.
NOTE: All voltage and continuity tests should be performed with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless specifically stated differently in testing procedures. For help with diagnostic testing. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
NOTE: The fuel pump relay is located in the central electric panel under the instrument cluster, on the left side. The fuel pump relay is located in the central electric panel under the instrument cluster, on the left side.

Remove fuel pump fuse No. 17 (15-Amp) from fuse block or fuel pump relay from central electric panel (relay position 6). See Fig 1 and Figure . Start engine, let engine run until it stalls. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Slight fuel pressure may remain in system. Before disconnecting any fuel system line, place a shop towel in position to catch any residual fuel. Cover any open lines with a clean shop towel.
