Topping Off the ATF
- If no ATF leaks out of the ATF check and fill hole -arrow A- before the ATF reaches 40 °C (104 °F):
The ATF inspection plug must be installed again before the ATF reaches 45 °C (113 °F) (50 °C (122 °F) for countries with hot climates). Let the transmission cool down and check again.
-- Place rags near the ATF-check and fill opening and on top of both right front exhaust pipes that have cooled off.
-- Install the Oil Filler - Jointed Hose:VAS6262/5 on top of both front exhaust gas pipes in the ATF-check and fill opening -arrow-.
-- Fill the ATF using the adapter until the ATF starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.
Too little or too much ATF will impair the transmission.
-- Use Socket Wrench SW19:T10455 and a torque wrench to tighten the new sealing plug -A- for ATF-check and fill opening.
Additional work steps are listed below for vehicles where the right cylinder bank has been shut off manually.
-- Connect the hose -1- for the crankcase ventilation and have it secured.
-- In order to prevent causing damage, do not hit the engine cover with your fist or tool.
-- First, use both hands to press down on the engine cover on the back on the ball pins; then, use both hands to press down on the front on the ball pins, this time, in the opposite direction of the -arrow-.
All:
-- End "Guided Functions" 02 - ATF Level Check with 12-Cylinder Engine (Repair Group 37) on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
-- Clean the front exhaust pipes and transmission and completely remove ATF residue.
The ATF level test is now completed.
