ATF Level, Checking, Vehicle With 6-/8-Cylinder Engine: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Procedure

-- Follow all test conditions and instructions. Refer to TEST CONDITIONS .

Determine the ATF Temperature

-- Select the following menu options under Functions/Component selection  in Guided Fault Finding on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:

-- Select Transmission Fluid Temperature  from the list.

-- Check the ATF temperature.

ATF Level, Checking and Correcting

NOTE:

The ATF level is checked at the ATF check and fill hole.

The ATF level is correct if a small amount of fluid drips out of the inspection and fill opening (this is normal as the fluid expands as it heats up) at an ATF temperature between 35 ° and 45 °C (95 ° and 113 °F), for hot countries 50 °C (122 °F).

Replace the plug for the ATF check and fill hole.

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • Only use the ATF available as a replacement part for the automatic transmission 0BK.
  • Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
  • For the correct allocation. Refer to the Parts Information
  • The ATF filler adapter must be clean. Do not mix the ATF any other fluids.

-- Secure the ATF container and the Oil Filler:VAS6262A  on the vehicle as high as possible; for the correct ATF specification. Refer to the Parts Information

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • Engine must not be started if only a small amount or no ATF is in the transmission after repair work or after significant ATF loss.
  • In this case, pre-filling is necessary. Refer to ATF, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-. Refer to Noise Insulation, Removing and Installing .

-- Move the selector lever to "P".

-- Run the engine at idle.

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit:SMN372500  under the transmission.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- When the ATF reaches 35 °C (95 °F), remove the plug -arrow A- and drain any excess ATF.

NOTE:

The ATF check and fill hole must be sealed off again before the ATF reaches 45 °C (113 °F) (50 °C (122 °F) for hot climate countries).

-- Tighten the new plug for the ATF check and fill hole. The ATF level test is now completed.
