Procedure
-- Follow all test conditions and instructions. Refer to TEST CONDITIONS .
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Engine must not be started if only a small amount or no ATF is in the transmission after repair work or after significant ATF loss.
- In this case, pre-filling is necessary. Refer to ATF, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-. Refer to Noise Insulation, Removing and Installing .
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Only use the ATF available as a replacement part for the automatic transmission 0BK.
- Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
- For the correct transmission code allocation. Refer to the Parts Information
- The ATF filler adapter must be clean. Do not mix the ATF any other fluids.
-- Secure the ATF container and the Oil Filler:VAS6262A on the vehicle as high as possible; for the correct ATF specification. Refer to the Parts Information
For vehicles with a 12-cylinder engine, the space between the exhaust system and the sealing plug for ATF control and the fill opening is -A- very small.
Due to the risk of getting burned by the exhaust system the right cylinder bank must be switched off during the ATF-level test so that the exhaust system can cool down. This is the only way the ATF level can be tested and correctly adjusted.
The procedure and checking the conditions involved in switching the right cylinder bank off will be introduced and tested on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in "Guided Functions".
Introduce the ATF-Level Test Via the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
-- On the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester under Guided Functions in the vehicle system 02 - Transmission Electronics the "Guided Functions" select 02 - ATF-level test with 12 cylinder Engine (Rep.Gr37) .
Conditions:
- Follow all of the instructions regarding the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester very carefully so that the "Guided Functions" can be successfully concluded.
The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester will automatically select the proper way to switch off the right cylinder bank, which can occur in various ways, depending on the software version. Various decisions must be made during the process below:
- Manual shut-off via mechanical intervention, includes pulling the crankcase housing ventilation hose off. Refer to Shutting off the Right Cylinder Bank Manually
- Electronic shut-off, which is governed by the software: the ATF-level test can continue to be carried out via the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to ATF Level, Checking and Correcting
