4.3 Dynamic Steering Basic Setting
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer released by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
There are two choices for the basic setting :
The "Complete Alignment"
This procedure must be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and basic setting should be performed.
- The front axle toe was adjusted.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
The "Quick Access"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if only the calibration/adjustment will be performed.
- The Steering Angle Sensor - G85- was calibrated.
- The Active Steering Control Module - J792- was replaced,
- The steering wheel is crooked when driving straight.NOTE:
- Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The respective procedure is performed automatically. It is only necessary to select the appropriate program for the procedure that will be performed.
- If the basic setting should be performed, then the "quick access" mode must be selected.
- The procedure in the "quick access" mode is described in the following.
Procedure
- Observe the test requirements. Refer to Axle Alignment Test Requirements
- Measurement Preparations for Calibrating and Adjusting Driver Assist Systems. Refer to Measurement Preparations for Calibrating/Aligning the Driver Assist Systems, Quick Access Mode
- Drive the vehicle "straight" onto the alignment rack. Switch off the ignition when the vehicle has come to a stop.
- Carry out wheel run-out compensation.
- Calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor - G85-. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor G85 Basic Setting
Perform any subsequent work using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester .
- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
- Select the Test plan tab.
- Select the Select individual test
button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Chassis
- Active steering
- 0001 - OBD-capable system
- 001B - Active Steering Control Module J792
- 001B - Active Steering Control Module functions J792
- 0015 - Basic setting
- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
