Peripheral Camera, Calibrating

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Calibration/adjustment must be performed if:

One or more cameras were replaced.
The Driver Assistance Systems Control Module -J1121- was replaced.
The Driver Assistance Systems Control Module -J1121- was replaced.
A software update was performed.
A data set was written to the Driver Assistance Systems Control Module -J1121-.
Repair work was performed on components in which a camera is installed or that influence the component location of the camera
Wheel alignments were performed.
There is a misalignment in the overlap range of the individual camera images.
The standing height of one axle was changed by more than 5 mm.
The standing height of the entire vehicle was changed by more than 10 mm.

Preparing for Calibration

Preliminary Work

Create a work surface that is large enough (no objects surrounding the calibration board to prevent any incorrect line detections).
Prevent any strong lighting contrasts (no headlamps or direct lighting).
Move the vehicle onto a solid, flat surface.
Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
For vehicles with rear axle steering, steer the rear axle to the zero position. Refer to Rear Axle Steering . This is the only way to ensure that the rear axle steering is in the straight-ahead position.
Vehicles without air suspension: deflect the springs several times and let settle.
Electromechanical parking brake applied.
All vehicle doors and the rear lid must be closed.
Fold out both exterior rearview mirrors.
Clean the camera lenses with a damp cloth.
Check the camera images on the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-. Replace the camera if the images are unclear because the camera has been damaged. Check the fastener for the camera if the image is low.
The system is active and is displayed on the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-.
Connect the battery charger for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
Before starting the calibration/adjustment, check the DTC memory and correct all displayed entries.

Procedure

-- Roll out the Calibration System: VAS721001 at the left and right near the vehicle.

-- The arrows -1- on the Calibration System: VAS721001 point in the direction of travel.

-- Install the rear and front clamping strips on the Calibration System: VAS721001 .

-- Align the crosshairs -2- on the Calibration System: VAS721001 to the front axle of the vehicle (center of front wheel).

-- Align both calibration devices parallel. The vehicle must be located in the center between both calibration devices.

Pay attention to the following measurement requirements:

Calibration Procedure

The following should not occur during the calibration procedure:

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.

-- Select the Test plan tab.

-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:

-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.

-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration/adjustment.

-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the diagnostic connection.

-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
