Preliminary Work
- Move the vehicle onto a solid, flat surface.
- Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
- For vehicles with rear axle steering, steer the rear axle to the zero position. Refer to Rear Axle Steering . This is the only way to ensure that the rear axle steering is in the straight-ahead position.
- Vehicles without air suspension: deflect the springs several times and let settle.
- Electromechanical parking brake applied.
- Clean the camera lens on the Rearview Camera -R189-.
- All vehicle doors closed.
- Connect the battery charger for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
- Before starting the calibration/adjustment, check the DTC memory and correct all displayed entries.
If the Rearview Camera -R189- is replaced:
-- If replacing the control module, select the "Replace control module" function for the corresponding control module on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Procedure
-- Check which hole circle the rims have.
-- On every : VAS6350/1A , attach three fitting wheel bolt adapters for the wheel bolts using the : VAS6350/5 .
-- Insert the measuring paddle at both : VAS6350/1A and secure with the locking nut.
-- Place the : VAS6350/1A onto the wheel bolts on both rear wheels.
- The wheel center mounting rotation center must be in the wheel rotation center.
-- Place the : VAS6350/1A on the wheels so that any "anti-theft wheel bolts" are not connected to the wheel center mounting.
-- Adjust the measuring paddle using the locking nuts so that they move freely just above the floor.
- The measuring paddles must move easily.
- The measuring paddles must be vertical.
-- Position the : VAS6350A at distance -a- to the rear wheels.
- Dimension -a- = 1.40 to 2.00 m
-- Using the bubble level (level indicator) -arrow-, bring the : VAS6350A into a horizontal position by turning the plastic bases.
-- Wear "laser protective eyewear".
-- Turn on the : VAS6350/3A -1- on the : VAS6350A .
-- Align the : VAS6350A so that the : VAS6350/3A -1- strikes the center of the brand emblem on the rear lid.
Distance measurement of : VAS6350A to rear wheels:
-- Switch on the : VAS6350/2A .
The Following Display Appears 1 :
The display -2- shows how to position the : VAS6350/2A .
- -arrow 1- : position with front edge
- -arrow 3- : position with rear edge
-- Press the corresponding button.
-- Hold the : VAS6350/2A -2- for the distance measurement on one side of the : VAS6350A flush to the catch bracket, as shown.
- The : VAS6350/2A -2- must lie firmly against the catch bracket.
-- Push the measurement button briefly.
The laser switches on.
-- Make sure the "laser beam" for the distance measurement contacts the lower enlarged part of the measuring paddle -1-.
If that is not the case, then correct the measuring paddle -1- height using the clamping screw on the : VAS6350/1A .
-- Use one hand to hold the : VAS6350/2A firmly in the catch bracket on the : VAS6350A ; the laser beam should be seen on the measuring paddle during this.
-- Then press the measurement button for the distance measurement briefly.
-- Note the value.
-- Repeat this measurement on the other side of the : VAS6350A in the same way for the rear wheel.
- The distance value must be the same on both sides.
-- If both measured values are not the same, then readjust the : VAS6350A correspondingly until the distance values are the same on both sides.
-- Make sure the : VAS6350/3A strikes the center above the brand emblem and that the level indicator remains centered. Adjust if necessary.
Distance measurement of : VAS6350A to the workshop floor:
-- Measure the distance from the upper edge of the : VAS6350A to the floor, dimension -a-.
-- Make sure the : VAS6350/2 is set correctly (attached to the front edge).
The display -2- shows how to position the : VAS6350/2A .
- -arrow 1- : position with front edge
- -arrow 3- : position with rear edge
-- Press the corresponding button.
-- Then press the measurement button for the distance measurement briefly.
-- Note the measured distance from the upper edge of the : VAS6350A to the floor.
Height measurement from center of rearview camera lens to the wheel contact surface:
-- Use commercially available measuring tape to measure the height from the center of the rearview camera lens to the wheel contact surface.
-- Mark the determined height.
The determined distance and height dimensions must now be entered in "millimeters" in the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Calibration Procedure
The following should not occur during the calibration procedure:
- Vehicle doors must not be opened or closed.
- People must not sit in the vehicle.
- Vehicle must not be loaded (curb weight).
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 006C - Rearview Camera System Control Module - J772
- 006C - Rearview Camera System Control Module, functions
- 006C - Calibrating
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration/adjustment.
-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the diagnostic connection.
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
