Airbag Control Module -J234-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Make sure the connectors are pushed in all the way and that they engage audibly.
Vehicle without convenience key and without a battery in the vehicle interior:
Risk of airbag deployment after improper repair when connecting the battery.
Risk of injury.
- There must not be anyone in the vehicle interior when connecting the battery.
-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
Vehicle with convenience key or battery in the vehicle interior
Risk of airbag deployment after improper repair when switching on the ignition.
Risk of injury.
- Switching on the ignition (key/button) after assembly may only be done when the driver seat is positioned all the way back.
-- Follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
There is a risk of malfunction when the control module is not activated correctly.
- Always adhere to the following procedure.
- After every removal and installation of the Airbag Control Module -J234-, the Guided Function "Inertial sensor basic setting" must be performed.
- If the Airbag Control Module -J234- is replaced with a new part, the basic setting must be performed when starting with the "0015 - Replace airbag control module" program.
- If the Airbag Control Module -J234- was removed and the same one was reinstalled, perform an "inertial sensor basic setting" as follows.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 0015 - Airbag Control Module - J234
- 0015 - Airbag, functions
- 0015 - Basic setting
- 0015 - Inertial sensors basic setting
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
- If the instrument cluster indicates a fault in the airbag system after assembly, then the DTC memory must be checked, erased, and then checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
