EGR Solenoid

  1. With ignition switch in "RUN" position, check for voltage on Grey/White wire at EGR solenoid. If there is no voltage, check for open circuit between EGR solenoid and fuse 18 in fuse panel. Service as necessary and check system operation.
  2. If voltage at wire is okay, disconnect vacuum outlet hose at EGR solenoid and install a "T" fitting and vacuum gauge. Disconnect Brown/Grey wire at EGR temperature switch and disconnect jumper wire at ground.
  3. Start engine and check for vacuum. Check air flow in switching valve at idle and at 1000-2800 RPM with coolant above 122°F (50°C). At this point there should be vacuum in connecting line between EGR solenoid and EGR valve. This can be felt by hand, or measured with a vacuum gauge.
