Fuel Injection Pump: Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Drain cooling system. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove fan and clutch assembly.
  2. Remove camshaft drive belt assembly. Install Injection Pump Sprocket Aligning Pin (T84P 9000A), and remove nut and washer attaching sprocket to injection pump.
  3. Install Puller (T67L 3600 A) and remove sprocket. Remove Woodruff key from pump shaft. Disconnect clamp attaching oil dipstick tube to intake manifold and position out of way.
  4. Disconnect turbo pressure indicator switch connector. Remove diagnostic plug bracket and position out of way. Loosen clamp attaching intake manifold to cylinder head and remove intake manifold.
    NOTE: To prevent fuel system contamination, cap all fuel lines and fittings.
  5. Disconnect and cap fuel lines from injection pump. Remove injection fuel lines from injection pump. Install caps on each end of each fuel line and pump fitting as it is removed and mark each fuel line individually.
  6. Disconnect coolant hoses from idle speed boost housing. Unplug electrical connectors to fuel shut-off solenoid, micro switch and injection timing solenoid.
  7. Disconnect fuel return line at injection pump. Disconnect fuel return hoses from return line on left fender apron. Disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel inlet line on left fender apron.
  8. Disconnect vacuum hoses at altitude compensation valve. Note position of hoses, so they may be returned to original positions. Disconnect throttle cable and speed control cable from injection pump (if so equipped).
  9. Remove 3 bolts attaching injection pump to bracket. Remove 2 nuts attaching injection pump to engine front cover and remove injection pump. See Fig 1.
