Power Recirculating Ball: Description
NOTE:
For information and diagnostic procedures for models equipped with the Servotronic electronic steering control system, see the appropriate ELECTRONIC - SERVOTRONIC
article in this section.
Power steering assembly consists of a gear housing with sector shaft gear and power piston. Power piston incorporates gear teeth on its outside which are in constant mesh with sector shaft gear teeth. On the inside of the power piston are worm gear teeth which drive a worm gear shaft through recirculating ball contact.
The steering valve is incorporated into the upper end of the worm gear assembly. The valve body spindle is connected to the steering column by universal joint. An internal torsion bar connects valve body spindle to valve body.
Power steering pump is a high pressure, belt driven, vane type. A fluid reservoir with internal filter supplies hydraulic fluid to pump. Pump maintains hydraulic pressure to power steering gear assembly.
