Steering Gear Pressure Test

NOTE: Perform STEERING PUMP PRESSURE  test before performing this test.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Install Pressure Tester (32-4-000 ) as in pump pressure test. Limit steering from reaching full lock position by 1/2-3/4 turn.
  2. With engine running, turn steering to full lock position. Pull steering wheel against steering lock with 22 lbs. (9.98 kg) pressure for no more than 5 seconds. Read pressure. On all models except 735i, 735iL and 750iL pressure should be 1422-1564 psi (100-110 kg/cm2 ).
  3. On 735i, 735iL and 750iL, pressure should be 1849-1991 psi (130-140 kg/cm2 ). Check pressure with gear at opposite lock. Steering gear must be replaced if pressure is not within specifications.
