On-Vehicle Testing

  1. Connect jumper wire between solenoid terminal and battery cable terminal at starter solenoid. If starter operates, check for defective switch, or defective wiring and connections between starter and ignition switch. If starter does not operate, go to next step.
  2. Turn headlights on and attempt to operate starter. If headlights dim and go out during cranking, check for a defective battery or short circuit in starter. If headlights do not dim, starter solenoid or starter is defective.
