Transmission Version and Control Systems: Notes

Each BMW Electro-hydraulic transmission has a corresponding control system. They are designated "GS" which stands for Transmission Control. This acronym is from the German words G  etriebe S  teurung. Each transmission can have more than one control system, this depends upon application (model year, series etc.).
