72 12... Firing Gas Generators

Special tools required: 

Installation locations of sensors for gas generators:

NOTE:

The satellites of the individual gas generators must be exposed before the adapter lead is connected. 

WARNING:

Disconnect battery.

Conform with SAFETY PRECAUTIONS !

Incorrect handling may result in the gas generators being triggered and thereby cause injury.

Following gas generators must be fired (max. equipment):

Connection overview of adapter lead 62 1 351 in vehicle on left for LHD models: 

AIRBAG ACTIVATION SENSOR/MODULE REFERENCE

F Sensor, front passenger seat Head restraint, front
G Sensor, front passenger seat Belt tensioner, front
H Sensor, front door Side airbag, front

Connection overview of adapter lead 62 1 352 in vehicle at rear : 

AIRBAG ACTIVATION SENSOR/MODULE REFERENCE

Plug Sensor Airbag activation
I Sensor, rear seat Side airbag, rear right
K Sensor, rear seat Side airbag, rear left
Belt tensioner, rear left and right

Connecting adapter lead to driver's airbag: 

Unlock DRIVER'S AIRBAG .

Disconnect plug connection.

Remove airbag unit and connect adapter lead for firing airbag.

WARNING:

Airbag unit must be fastened again to steering wheel after adapter lead has been connected.

Do not damage adapter lead when doing so.

An airbag unit that is not fastened in accordance with regulations can lead to injury when fired!

Connecting adapter lead to sensor, driver's/front passenger seat: 

Operate seat in upwards direction.

Remove TOP RAIL TRIM at front.

Disconnect plug connections (1) from sensor (3) and connect adapter lead 62 1 351.

If necessary, mark strap with chalk at opening of B-pillar. In this way, belt tension can be checked after firing.

Connecting adapter lead to sensor, front door, left and right: 

Remove DOOR TRIM .

Disconnect plug connection (1) from sensor (3).

Connect adapter lead 62 1 351.

WARNING:

Door trim must be screwed down again after adapter lead has been connected.

Connecting adapter lead to A-pillar sensor, left and right: 

Expose A-pillar sensor.

Disconnect plug connection (1) from sensor (4) and connect adapter lead 62 1 351.

Connecting adapter lead to B-pillar sensor, left and right: 

Expose B-pillar sensor.

Move sensor (2) in B-pillar downwards.

Disconnect plug connection (1) from B-pillar sensor (2) and connect adapter lead 62 1 351.

Connecting adapter lead to rear-seat sensor: 

Expose rear-seat sensor.

Disconnect plug connections (2) from sensor (3) and connect adapter lead 62 1 352.
