11 00 050 Removing and installing engine (M57T2)

Special tools required 

Necessary preliminary tasks 

Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.

Release screw (3) and place grounding strap (4) to one side.

Release lock (1)

Remove turbocharger hoses (2).

Release A/C compressor (3).

Dynamic Drive optional extra: 

Secure all connecting leads with cable ties against falling down.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Unlock and detach heating hoses (2).

Installation note: 

Quick-release couplings of coolant hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click  .

Release power steering pump (1) and place to one side.

NOTE: Secure power steering pump (1) with cable tie against falling down.

Mount special tool 11 0 020 on engine.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to chain of special tool 11 0 020 , risk of damage  to pressure control valve.
NOTE: Secure engine wiring harness with cable tie on engine against falling down.

Remove screw (1) on left/right.

Disconnect vacuum line (2).

Lift out engine with crane.



Special tools required 

Necessary preliminary tasks 

Recycling 

Catch and dispose of escaping fuel in a suitable container.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Release bolts (1, 2).

Remove heater end plate (3).

Installation: 

Make sure heater end plate is correctly seated.

M6x20 bolt must be fitted in middle.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1).

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1) from radiator at top.

Unlock and detach vacuum line (1).

Release coolant hose (2) for heater and detach.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Unfasten and detach coolant hose (1) from expansion tank.

Unclip coolant hose (2) from expansion tank.

Detach plug (3) below expansion tank from coolant level switch.

Release bolts (4) on expansion tank.

Unfasten and detach coolant hose (5) below expansion tank.

Remove expansion tank.

Unfasten and detach coolant hose (6) from heating valve.

Unlock fuel feed and return lines (1) and disconnect.

Detach vacuum hose (2) for engine mount.

Secure engine wiring harness (2) on engine against falling out.

Mount special tool 11 0 020 on engine.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to chain of special tool 11 0 020 .
Risk of damage  .
Only raise engine at the lifting lugs (1) provided for this purpose.

Release nut (1) on left and right engine support arms.

Installation: 

Replace nuts (1).

Release grounding strap on left engine support arm.

Remove left engine support arm.

Unclip lines.

Release screws (1) and remove engine support arm.

IMPORTANT: Remove engine carefully  .

Assemble engine.

FILL cooling system and check for leaks.

Check engine oil level.
