11 00 050 Removing and installing engine (M57T2)

Special tools required:

11 0 020

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead from battery. See 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Disconnect battery positive cable from jump-start connection point in engine compartment. See 61 21 010 REMOVE AND INSTALL OR REPLACE BATTERY .
Lift engine hood into assembly position. See 51 00... SERVICE POSITION OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID .
Remove gearbox. See 24 00 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (GA6HP26Z) , 24 00 033 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (GA8HP45Z) or 24 00 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (GA8HP70Z) .
Remove radiator design cover. See 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (M57T2) .
Remove overall engine cover. See 13..... REMOVE THE ACOUSTIC COVERS (M57T2 WITH AND WITHOUT SCR)
Remove air filter housing. See 13 71 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING (M57T2 WITH AND WITHOUT SCR) .
Remove fresh air duct on left/right. See 64 31 053 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING FRESH-AIR DUCT .
Remove center engine compartment partition wall
Remove intake PLENUM .
Release engine wiring harness from electronics box
Release fuel lines, feed and return lines.
Remove fan clutch. See 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (M57T2) .
Remove A/C compressor drive belt. See 11 28 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING DRIVE BELT (ELASTOBELT) FOR A/C COMPRESSOR (M57TU/M57T2) .
Remove alternator drive belt. See 11 28 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR (M57T2) .
Drain coolant. See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (M57T2) .
Remove coolant expansion tank. See 17 11 100 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COOLANT EXPANSION TANK (M57T2, N57 D30 O/T/S 0/1) .
Remove radiator. See 17 11 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RADIATOR (M57T2)
Remove engine underbody protection at front/middle. See 51 47 490 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT ASSEMBLY UNDERSIDE PROTECTION .
Remove catalytic converter. See 18 40 040 REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SEALING OR REPLACING EXHAUST MANIFOLD (M57T2) .

Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.

Release screw (3) and place grounding strap (4) to one side.

Release lock (1)

Remove turbocharger hoses (2).

Release A/C compressor (3).

Dynamic Drive optional extra:

Secure all connecting leads with cable ties against falling down.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Unlock and detach heating hoses (2).

Installation note:

Quick-release couplings of coolant hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click .

Release power steering pump (1) and place to one side.

NOTE: Secure power steering pump (1) with cable tie against falling down.

Mount special tool 11 0 020 on engine.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to chain of special tool 11 0 020 , risk of damage to pressure control valve.

NOTE: Secure engine wiring harness with cable tie on engine against falling down.

Remove screw (1) on left/right.

Disconnect vacuum line (2).

Lift out engine with crane.
