11 00 670 Securing engine in installation position (S63)
Special tools required:
Owing to the new guidelines on pedestrian protection, side panels are no longer suitable for supporting the engine.
Observe following instructions relating to special tool:
- Prior to each use, check the special tools for defects, modifications and operational reliability.
- Damaged/modified special tools must not be used!
- No changes or modifications may be made to the special tools!
- Keep special tools dry, clean and free of grease.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Secure ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID IN SERVICE POSITION .
- Remove INTAKE FILTER HOUSING .
- REMOVE trailing links from spring strut dome.
- Remove FRONT WHEELS .
- REMOVE steering box cover at top right.
Assemble cross-member 00 6 000 with special tools 00 0 202, 00 0 204, 00 0 208.
Modification:
Replace profile strips with special tools 00 0 451 .
Replace front supports with special tools 00 0 452 .
Position cross-member 00 6 000 with a 2nd person helping on designated areas (1, 2).
Always make sure there is sufficient clearance between the engine (or its add-on parts) and the body.
Secure special tool 11 0 000 to spindle 00 0 202.
Attach suitable chains to special tool 11 0 000 and suspend from both engine suspension lugs.
Tighten down all adjusting screws and nuts on cross-member 00 0 200.
Left engine mount:
Slacken nuts (1) from the top.
Right engine mount:
Remove COVER from the steering box.
Loosen the nut (1) on the engine mount through the opening in the wheel arch.
Tightening torque 22 11 2AZ .
Raise engine approx. 10 mm with cross member.
Installation note:
Replace self-locking nuts.
