11 31... Checking/reworking intake camshaft (N20)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Remove VACUUM PUMP 

IMPORTANT: Work may only be carried out on the appropriate intake camshaft variant.
Determined INTAKE CAMSHAFT VARIANT .

Repair kit components:

Checking position of end cover in intake camshaft: 

NOTE: For clarification, the following operations show the intake camshaft removed.

Insert test sleeve (A) in drive flange for vacuum pump of intake camshaft (1) and move into position.

Slide in test pin (2) in direction of arrow up to stop.

Determine position of test pin (2).

Clear protrusion  of test pin (1) in relation to test sleeve (A):

(End cover already moved. Installation depth not sufficient.)

Remove test sleeve with test pin.

Replace intake camshaft.

IMPORTANT: Replace INTAKE CAMSHAFT  in accordance with altered procedure.

Slight protrusion  of test pin (1) in relation to test sleeve (A):

(End cover already moved. Installation depth not sufficient.)

Remove test sleeve with test pin.

Replace intake camshaft.

IMPORTANT: Replace INTAKE CAMSHAFT  in accordance with altered procedure.

No protrusion or slight negative protrusion  of test pin (1) in relation to test sleeve (A):

(End cover not moved. Installation depth sufficient.)

Remove test sleeve with test pin.

Retrofit spring sheet tube.

Retrofitting spring sheet tube: 

IMPORTANT: The bore holes in the spring sheet tube (1) must be in the forward push-in direction.

Insert pretensioning sleeve (B) with spring sheet tube (1) as shown in intake camshaft (2) and bring into position.

IMPORTANT: Bring press-in stamp (C) into position.

Press spring sheet tube (1) in direction of arrow with press-in stamp (C) into pretensioning sleeve (B) until spring sheet tube is virtually flush.

IMPORTANT: In the next step the spring sheet tube (1) must engage in intake camshaft (2). This prevents the end cover (3) from moving.

IMPORTANT: Pretensioning sleeve (B) and press-in stamp (C) must  be moved into position so that spring sheet tube locks in intake camshaft.

Turn press-in stamp over. Insert tip of press-in stamp into spring sheet tube (1).

Press spring sheet tube (1) in direction of arrow fully into camshaft until press-in stamp (C) and pretensioning sleeve (B) are in contact.

Remove pretensioning sleeve (B) and press-in stamp (C) together.

Required follow-up work: 

Install VACUUM PUMP
