11 00 050 Remove and install engine (N52T)
Special tools required:
No steel screws/bolts may be used due to the threat of electrochemical corrosion.
A magnesium crankcase requires aluminum screws/bolts exclusively.
Aluminum screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released .
Aluminum screws/bolts are permitted with and without color coding (blue).
For reliable identification:
Aluminum screws/bolts are not magnetic.
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage) .
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Clamp off negative BATTERY CABLE .
- MOVE engine compartment lid into service position.
- Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Remove TRANSMISSION .
- Remove front OUTPUT SHAFTS .
- Remove TRAILING LINKS .
- Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
- Remove EXPANSION TANK .
- Remove FAN COWL with electric fan.
- Remove THERMOSTAT .
- Draw off A/C SYSTEM .
- Remove RADIATOR .
- Detach all coolant hoses from engine.
- REMOVE intake plenum.
- Detach vacuum line.
- Unfasten engine wiring harness and lay to one side.
To remove or refit the engine, the towing hook 72 15 8 108 670 is required.
Fold back cover (1).
Release nut underneath. Remove positive battery cable from positive battery connection point.
Tightening torque: 12 42 3AZ .
Support engine with special tool 11 7 310 on steering box.
Unlock and detach fuel and tank ventilation lines (1).
Seal fuel lines with special tool 13 5 280 .
Release screws (2, 3).
Disconnect pressure and intake pipes from air conditioning compressor.
Installation note:
Replace all sealing rings and moisten with refrigerant oil.
Tightening torque: 64 53 7AZ .
Unscrew left and right engine mounts.
Screw towing eye (1) into cylinder head.
Tightening torque: 11 12 11AZ .
Attach special tool 11 0 000 to engine crane.
Suspend special tool 11 0 000 from the designated mounting eyelets (2) only.
Lift engine out with engine crane.
Assemble engine.
Check function of DME.
