11 00 050 Removing and installing engine (M57T2 - SCR)

Special tools required: 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Recycling: 

Catch and dispose of escaping fuel with auxiliary materials.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

IMPORTANT: Only applies to E70
Only for remounting the injectors 
Only for vehicles with a production date between 27/01/2012 and 05/10/2012: 
If during disassembly an injector shim (2) was removed in addition to a copper gasket (1), it is imperative that it is reinstalled.
Several cylinder heads were installed with an additional injector shim underneath the injector.
If the injector shim is not installed or two injector shims are installed, a malfunction of the engine may occur (e.g. irregular engine running, exhaust fumes).

IMPORTANT: If the injector spacer shim is lost, the entire cylinder head has to be replaced!

IMPORTANT: Only for remounting the injectors
Several cylinder heads were installed with an additional injector shim underneath the injector.
Before installing the injector it is imperative that the depth of the injector shaft is measured using a depth gauge.
The depth of the injector shaft is 126.25 mm.
Ensure that an injector shim is installed if one is needed.
If the injector shim is not installed or two injector shims are installed, a malfunction of the engine may occur (e.g. irregular engine running, exhaust fumes).

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1) from radiator at bottom.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1) from radiator at top.

(Picture shows E90).

Unlock vacuum line (1) on brake servo and detach.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Release screw (1) and remove coolant line.

Unlock fuel feed and return lines (1) and disconnect.

Picture shows E90.

Secure engine wiring harness (2) on engine against falling out.

Fit special tool 11 0 020 on engine.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to chain of special tool 11 0 020 . Risk of damage. 

Only raise engine at the lifting lugs (1) provided for this purpose.

Release nut (1) on left and right engine support arms.

Disconnect grounding cable on engine support arm.

Installation note: 

Replace nuts (1).

Tightening torque: 22 11 2AZ .

IMPORTANT: Remove engine carefully  .

Assemble engine.

FILL cooling system and check for leaks.

Check engine oil level.
