- Adjusting the eccentric shaft to minimum lift
- Block the crankshaft in the TDC firing position of cylinder 1 (manual transmission)
- Blocking the camshafts
- Blocking the crankshaft in the TDC firing position of the first cylinder (automatic transmission)
- Bring front compartment lid in the service position
- Carry out the following follow-up work
- Carrying out vehicle test
- Check engine oil level
- Checking the position of the intake camshaft (cylinder head removed)
- Checking the position of the intake camshaft at cylinders 3 and 4 (cylinder head removed)
- Checking/Adding the transmission oil level (GA8HP45Z, GA8HP50Z, GA8HP70Z, GA8HP75Z, GAHP90Z)
- Connect the charge air line to the exhaust turbocharger
- Connect the coolant line to the high-temperature coolant circuit
- Connecting connector A46*6B to the control unit
- Connecting the battery earth lead
- Connecting the connector with the DME control unit and the power distribution box (PDM)
- Connecting the coolant feeder hose to the connecting bracket
- Connecting the diagnostic system for possible integration level encoding and programming

- Disconnect the charge air line from the exhaust turbocharger

- Disconnecting the connector from the DME control unit and from the power distribution box (PDM)
- Drain the engine oil (remove the full-flow oil filter)
- Tightening the oil filter cover
- Evacuating the air conditioning
- Fasten charge air line to the throttle body
- Filling the air conditioning
- For replacement: Reset adaptation values
- If the DME control unit is replaced
- Install acoustic cover at front
- Uninstalling the cover for the DME control unit
- Install cover for the DME control unit
- Install front panel, center
- Install right engine support arm
- Install right luggage compartment trim panel
- Install the connecting support with the tension strut
- Install the connecting support
- Install the coolant feed line (coolant return line is removed)
- Install the front section of the right wheel arch cover

- Remove the connecting support
- Remove the coolant feed line (coolant return line is removed)
- Remove the front left and right wheels
- Remove the protective plate for the fuel lines
- Remove the tension strut (rear end)
- Remove the unfiltered-air snorkel
- Remove trailing link at spring strut dome
- Remove transmission cross-member
- Remove valve stem seals
- Removing all spark plugs
- Removing the engine from the assembly jig
