Chart C5 - Electronic Spark Control (ESC): Notes
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- With engine idling, there should not be a knock signal present.
- Tapping on the engine lift hook bracket should simulate a knock signal to determine if the sensor is capable of detecting detonation. If no knock is detected, knock on engine block closer to sensor.
- If engine has an internal problem which is creating knock, sensor may be responding to this internal failure.
- This step determines if the sensor is faulty or if the ESC portion of the MEM-CAL is faulty. Be sure MEM-CAL is properly installed.
