Steering Column: Removal

  1. Disable SIR system (if equipped). See AIR BAG DISABLING & ACTIVATING  . Set front wheels in straight-ahead position and turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove trim panels from around steering column as necessary.
  2. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  . Remove stoplight switch. Remove joint coupling bolt and nut attaching intermediate shaft to steering shaft.
  3. Disconnect transmission linkage rod or cable from lever on shift tube (column shift). Remove toe plate-to-cowl attaching bolts. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary. Remove steering column bracket mounting nuts. Remove steering column.
