Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select MISFIRE DATA LIST and monitor all MISFIRE CUR. COUNTERS (1 counter per cylinder). If any of the counters are incrementing, go to step 4). If counters are not incrementing, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select MISFIRE DATA LIST and monitor MISFIRE HIST. COUNTERS. If counter indicate a number other than 0.0 counts, perform DTC P1222 diagnostic test. If counter does not indicate 0.0 counts, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
  4. Go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect harness connector to affected injectors. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, probe injector harness connector ignition feed circuit. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10).
  6. Turn ignition off. Connect injector test light to affected injector harness connector. Start and operate engine at idle. If injector test light flashes, go to next step. If injector test light does not flash, go to step 11).
  7. Inspect injector harness terminals. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 17). If injector terminals are okay, go to step 15).
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect all injector harness connectors related to fuse that was faulty. Connect test light to battery positive. Probe injector feed circuits of one of the disconnected injector harnesses. If test light illuminates, go to step 13). If test light did not illuminate, go to next step.
  9. Using DVOM, check resistance of each injector related to fuse that was faulty. If resistance is less than 11.6 ohms, go to step 15). If injector resistance is not less than as specified, go to step 14).
  10. Repair injector ignition feed circuit to affected injector. After repairs, go to step 17).
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Check for open in injector driver circuit to PCM connector. If circuit is open, go to next step. If circuit is okay, go to step 16).
  12. Repair open in injector driver circuit. After repairs, go to step 17). 13 Repair grounded ignition feed circuit to injectors. After repairs, go to step 17).
  13. Repair intermittent short to ground in injector ignition feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 17).
  14. Replace faulty injector(s). After replacing injector(s), go to step 17).
  15. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  16. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P0200. Operate vehicle within conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool did not indicate that this test ran and passed, repeat step 2).
  17. Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
