Performance Shift Switch Malfunction: Testing

  1. If BCM diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If BCM diagnostic system check was not performed, see procedures in BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. While observing PERF SHIFT indicator light, turn performance shift switch on and off. If PERF SHIFT indicator light illumination toggles properly with performance shift switch position, system is operating properly. If PERF SHIFT indicator light illumination does not toggle properly with performance shift switch position, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool. Using scan tool, monitor status of SHIFT SELECT SW while turning performance shift switch on and off. If status of SHIFT SELECT SW toggles properly with performance shift switch position, go to step 9). If status of SHIFT SELECT SW does not toggle properly with performance shift switch position, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM Pink 24-pin connector C2. Turn performance shift switch off. Using DVOM, check resistance between BCM connector C2, terminal A11 (Dark Blue wire) and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 8).
  5. Turn performance shift switch on. Using DVOM, check resistance between BCM connector C2, terminal A11 (Dark Blue wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 11). If resistance is not less than 2 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect performance shift switch electrical connectors. Connect test light between battery voltage and performance shift switch harness connector (male-side) terminal "B" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10).
  7. Using DVOM, check resistance between performance shift harness connector (male-side) terminal "A" (Dark Blue wire) and BCM harness connector C2, terminal A11 (Dark Blue wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 14). If resistance is not less than 2 ohms, go to step 12).
  8. Disconnect performance shift switch electrical connectors. Using DVOM, check resistance between BCM connector C2, terminal A11 (Dark Blue wire) and ground. If resistance is infinite, go to step 14). If resistance is not infinite, go to step 13).
  9. BCM is functioning properly, but IPC is malfunctioning. Diagnose and repair as necessary. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article. Go to step 15).
  10. Repair poor connection or open in Black wire between performance shift switch and ground. Go to step 15).
  11. Replace BCM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Reprogram BCM. See BCM PROGRAMMING  . Go to step 15).
  12. Repair poor connection or open in Dark Blue wire between performance shift switch and BCM connector C2. Go to step 15).
  13. Repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire between performance shift switch and BCM connector C2. Go to step 15).
  14. Replace performance shift switch. Go to next step.
  15. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reinstall all components and connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Check for DTCs. If any DTCs are current, perform BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . If no DTCs are current, system is operating properly.
