Removal Procedure

Important:  Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the windshield wiper arms and blades. Refer to WIPER ARMS .
  3. Refer to the following procedure to remove the air inlet grille:
    1. Tools Required 
      • J 38778  Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
    2. 3.1.  Open the hood.
    3. 3.2.  Remove the windshield washer hose from the air inlet grille.

    5. 3.3.  Remove the push-in retainers from the air inlet grille, using the J 38778 .

    7. 3.4.  Remove the large plastic screws from the air inlet grille.
    8. 3.5.  Remove the air inlet grille from the vehicle.
  4. Refer to the following procedure to remove the windshield garnish moldings:
    • Pull the door weatherstrip away from the pinchweld flange to expose the garnish molding.

    • Pull on the garnish molding to disengage the 2 clips.
    • Remove the garnish molding from the car.
  5. Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the rain sensor connector, If equipped.
  7. Disconnect the diversity antenna, if equipped.
    WARNING: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
  8. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
    • Upper dash pad
    • Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
    • Seats and carpeting
    CAUTION: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    Important:  The windshield reveal molding (1) is a one piece molding and fills the cavities between the body and windshield (2).

    If the windshield reveal molding (1) is stretched or damaged it can not be reused.

  10. Remove the windshield reveal molding (1). Refer to Urethane Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows .

    Grasp the lower corner of the windshield reveal molding by hand and slowly pull the reveal molding away from the windshield.

  11. If the windshield reveal molding will not release, use a utility knife in order to cut around the windshield in order to remove the windshield reveal molding.
  12. Remove the lower windshield supports (1) from the cowl panel, if equipped.

    Important:  Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

  13. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
    • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
    • Use J 24402-A, J 39032  or equivalent in order to remove the window.

  14. Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2).
