Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to Safety Goggles and Fuel Warning .

  1. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  2. Fig 1: Fuel Tank Fuel Flow Components

  3. Disconnect the fuel tank fuel pump module wiring harness (3) from the fuel tank fuel pump module (4).
  4. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (1) from the fuel tank fuel pump module (4). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Close the fuel feed pipe with EN-807  plugs.
  6. Disconnect the EVAP emission pipe (2) from the fuel tank fuel pump module (4). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  7. Close the EVAP emission pipe with EN-6015  plugs.

  9. Install the EN-48279  remover/installer (1) to the fuel pump module lock ring (2).
  10. NOTE:

    DO NOT use impact tools. Significant force will be required to release the lock ring. The use of a hammer and screwdriver is not recommended. Secure the fuel tank in order to prevent fuel tank rotation.

  11. Using the EN-48279  remover and a long breaker-bar, rotate the lock ring in a counterclockwise direction in order to unlock the lock ring.
  12. Remove the EN-48279  remover/installer (1) and the fuel pump module lock ring (2).

    NOTE:

    Lift the fuel tank fuel pump module up slightly. Be careful because of the fuel level sensor.

  14. Remove the fuel tank fuel pump module (1).
  15. Remove and DISCARD the fuel pump module seal (2).
  16. Remove the fuel level sensor from the fuel tank fuel pump module. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement .
