Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  2. Fig 1: Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Nut

  3. Remove the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1).
  4. Remove the steering gear outer boot clamp (2).

  6. Loosen the steering gear inner boot clamp (1). Mark installation position of boot clamp (1) on steering gear.

  8. Remove the steering gear boot (1).
  9. NOTE:

    After removing the boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If none is evident, continue with the repair. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the inner tie rod.

  10. Remove the steering gear inner boot clamp (2).
