Preliminary Procedures Steering Gear Boot Replacement After removing the steering gear boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. 1	Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod CAUTION: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution . CAUTION: Holding the steering gear rack bar with anything other than a non-serrated adjustable wrench will cause damage to the steering gear Procedure Cover the steering gear rack bar with a clean shop towel. Hold the steering gear rack bar with a non-serrated adjustable wrench. Using a universal inner tie rod wrench, tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod to specification. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment Tighten 100 N.m (74 lb ft)

Procedure

Cover the steering gear rack bar with a clean shop towel.
Hold the steering gear rack bar with a non-serrated adjustable wrench.
Using a universal inner tie rod wrench, tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod to specification.
Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment

Tighten
100 N.m (74 lb ft)
