Circuit/System Testing
- Refer to SIR Service Precautions
- Inspect the terminals of the following components and connectors for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as necessary:
- A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
- K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Inline Harness Connector
- The connector position assurance (CPA) should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. The CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.
- If the condition is intermittent, wiggle the related wiring harnesses and connectors, with the ignition/vehicle on or engine running, while monitoring the scan tool circuit status parameters for the component. The parameters will display if there is a condition with the circuit or a connection.
- If the condition is intermittent or cannot be duplicated, disconnect the connectors and add dielectric grease or lubricant (Nyogel 760G or equivalent, meeting GM specification 9986087). This procedure will correct the high resistance condition due to terminal fretting corrosion.
- A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly & Harness Connector
- K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module & Harness Connector
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the component: A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 5 & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Perform the scan tool control function: Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Indicator - Off
Test for less than 11 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 13 & Ground
- If 11 V or greater
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal @ Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- If less than 11 V
- Perform the scan tool control function: Passenger Seat Belt Reminder Indicator - On
Test for greater than 4 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 13 & Ground
- If 4 V or less
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal @ Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal @ Component harness & Control circuit terminal @ Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
- If greater than 4 V
- Replace the appropriate component: A98 Front Overhead Console Assembly
