Pcm Code E034, Map Signal Too High: Action

PCM turns on SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. PCM uses a substitute barometric sensor value of 92 kPa and substitutes MAP sensor value based on engine RPM and throttle switch status.

This test monitors MAP signal for engine load under closed throttle conditions. MAP sensor output voltage is a DC voltage that varies with MAP. If MAP signal is too high for closed throttle conditions present when PCM monitors signal, PCM will set a code.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. MAP at idle should be 30-50 kPa, depending on engine load. BARO pressure should be 85-105 kPa, depending upon altitude.
  2. Check for vacuum at fuel pressure regulator hose. At idle, typical vacuum reading should be 14-20 in. Hg, depending on engine load.
  3. Checks for faulty MAP sensor vacuum supply or MAP sensor circuitry.
  4. Checks for open sensor ground from sensor to PCM.
  5. Checks for short to voltage on sensor signal circuit No. 432.
  6. Fault is at PCM connector or PCM. Check for damaged PCM terminals before replacing PCM.
