Entering Diagnostics: Notes

NOTE: If vehicle will not enter self-diagnostic mode, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .

Operating the vehicle in diagnostics for extended time periods without the engine running or without a battery charger will cause the battery to run down and possibly relate false diagnostic information, or cause a no start condition. To ensure proper operation, attach a battery charger if vehicle is to be operated in diagnostics without engine running for periods longer than 1/2 hour.

To enter diagnostics, proceed as follows:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to RUN position.
  2. Push the OFF and WARM buttons on the Climate Control Panel simultaneously and hold until the segment check appears on the IPC and Combo Panel display.
Diagnostic code level will display Powertrain Control Module (PCM) codes followed by Body Control Module (BCM) codes, lighting codes, Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) codes, Traction Control System (TCS) codes and RTD codes. See Fig 1 -Fig 6 . To proceed to desired level, press and release indicated CCP button(s). Depressing OFF button returns diagnostics to previous level. To exit diagnostics, depress RESET button on Driver Information Center (DIC). Proceed to appropriate diagnostic test procedure for displayed diagnostic codes.
