DTC B1971, Inadvertent Power Fault: Testing

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool and select BCM TEST. Select INADV. POWER. Turn inadvertent power on. Turn interior lights on. If interior lights illuminate, go to step 4). If interior lights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Remove inadvertent power relay. Using DVOM, check voltage between inadvertent power relay terminal A1 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery power does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between inadvertent power relay and engine compartment fuse/relay center.
  3. Using scan tool, turn inadvertent power on. Using DVOM, check resistance between inadvertent power relay terminal C2 (Brown wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace inadvertent power relay. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, check for open in Brown wire between inadvertent power relay and PZM. If circuit is okay, replace PZM.
  4. Disconnect PZM connector. Remove inadvertent power relay. Using DVOM, check resistance between inadvertent power relay connector terminal C2 (Brown wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown wire between inadvertent power relay and PZM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace PZM.
