DTC B2471: Interior Lights Fault: Testing

  1. Perform lighting system diagnostic system check. See LIGHTING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Select BCM display DTCs on scan tool. Check for a history DTC B1971. If DTC B1971 is stored as a history code, go to DTC B1971: INADVERTENT POWER FAULT  . If DTC B1971 is not stored as a history code, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select INTERIOR LIGHTS from light test menu in SPECIAL FUNCTIONS. While observing interior lights, press on and off buttons on scan tool several times. If interior lights turn on and off when commanded on and off by scan tool, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If interior lights do not turn on and off when commanded on and off by scan tool, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, command interior lights off. Using a DVOM connected to ground, backprobe and measure voltage at BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C13 (Brown/Purple wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists when interior lights are commanded off by scan tool, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist when interior lights are commanded off by scan tool, go to step  6 .
  5. Disconnect multifunction relay harness connector. See Figure .Using a DVOM, test Brown/Purple wire between multifunction relay harness connector terminal No. 9 and BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C13 for short to battery voltage. See Figure and Figure . If fault is located and repaired, go to step  10 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to step  9 .
  6. Disconnect multifunction relay harness connector. See Figure . Disconnect BCM 32-pin connector C2. Using a DVOM, test Brown/Purple wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C13 and multifunction relay harness connector terminal No. 9 for an open or high resistance. See Figure and Figure . If fault is located and repaired, go to step  10 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to next step.
  7. Using a DVOM, test Brown/Purple wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C13 and multifunction relay harness connector terminal No. 9 for short to ground. If fault is located and repaired, go to step  10 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to next step.
  8. Replace multifunction relay. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . After replacement, go to step  10
  9. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram BCM. See PROGRAMMING  . After replacement, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear BCM DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions to set DTC. If DTC B2471 resets, return to step  2 . If DTC B2471 does not reset, system is okay.
