DTC B2473: High Beam Fault: Testing

  1. Perform lighting system diagnostic system check. See LIGHTING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Select HIGH BEAM from light test menu in SPECIAL FUNCTIONS. While observing HIGH BEAM status on scan tool, press on and off button on scan tool several times. If status changes and high beam lights operate with commanded state, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If status does not change or high beam lights do not operate with commanded state, go to next step.
  3. Using DVOM, test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and left high beam relay terminal No. 1 for an open or high resistance. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article. Also test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and right high beam relay terminal No. 6 for an open or high resistance. If fault is located and repaired, go to step  7 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to next step.
  4. Using DVOM, test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and left high beam relay terminal No. 1 for a short to ground. Also test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and right high beam relay terminal No. 6 for a short to ground. If fault is located and repaired, go to step  7 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to next step.
  5. Using DVOM, test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and left high beam relay terminal No. 1 for a short to battery voltage. Also test White wire between BCM 32-pin connector C2 terminal C8 and right high beam relay terminal No. 6 for a short to battery voltage. If fault is located and repaired, go to step  7 . If fault is not located and repaired, go to next step.
  6. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram BCM. See PROGRAMMING  . After replacement, go to next step.
  7. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Verify high beam headlight operation and recheck for DTCs. If DTC B2473 is present, go to step  2 . If DTC B2473 is not present, system is okay.
