Body Control System Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: Use this system check as starting point for any BCM complaint. Most malfunctions are caused by faulty wiring, connectors or components. Use of scan tool is recommended. Follow scan tool manufacturer's instructions.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector. See Figure . If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with Dash Integration Module (DIM), Instrument Panel Module (IPM) and Rear Integration Module (RIM). If scan tool communicates with all 3 modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with all 3 modules, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  .
  3. Display DTCs function on scan tool for DIM, IPM and RIM. If scan tool displays any DTCs for these modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs for these modules, attempt to diagnose malfunctioning system or device by symptom. Go to appropriate article for malfunctioning system or device.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  . If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, B1009, B1652, B1656, B1658 or B1805, go to BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table. If scan tool does not display any DTCs listed, go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays DTC B1982, B1983, B1327 or B1328 go to BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table. If scan tool does not display any DTCs listed, attempt to diagnose malfunctioning system or device by symptom. Go to appropriate article for malfunctioning system or device.
